Historical note:
Look out for the 17th century locks near the Shakespeare Suite, on the door to the Sir William Trussell Suite, and on a door leading off the Minstrel Gallery. The dolphin motifs were created using a Flemish or German technique that was used to make armour. You can read more about the history of Billesley Manor here. These historic, luxury bedrooms ooze romance, with alluring features such as original panelling, period fireplaces, secret cupboards and chandeliers. Historical note: The Shakespeare Suite

If you stay in the Shakespeare Suite – look out for the small slit in the oak-panelled fireplace. This once led to a hidden space, used to store valuables during the English Civil War. Although the panelling in this suite is of English oak, its decorations – pilasters, brackets and oval ‘jewels’ – are carved in walnut and pear. Walnut was particularly rare and expensive in 17th century England. This was then the bedroom of Sir Robert Lee, owner of Billesley Manor and a wealthy London merchant and alderman, knighted and made Lord Mayor of London in 1603. You can read more about the history of Billesley Manor here.
