An interview with our spa manager

This month, we’re getting to know our health club and spa manager, Hollie, as she shares details about her role here at Billesley Manor.

Hollie originally aspired to be a PE teacher, thanks to her love of sports. When the time came to apply for college, however, she changed her mind and enrolled on the Beauty Therapy course. Having qualified eight years ago, Hollie then worked her way up to a managerial position. It was from here that she applied for her current role as our spa manager here at Billesley Manor.

Discussing the move, she said, “Billesley Manor Hotel & Spa is beautiful. My interview took place at night time – and when I drove in, the building, trees and water features were lit up. Once I was inside the building, I had this feeling. It was very calm and relaxed – an environment I wasn’t used to. I love being hands-on and at the front of the spa most days. I’m often in the spa, meeting and greeting our lovely guests and ensuring everything runs smoothly.”

Our Spa Manager: Treatments at Billesley Manor

Here at Billesley Manor, we offer a wide range of relaxing spa treatments, from indulgent facials to deep tissue massages. Sharing her favourite treatment with us, Hollie said, “I love facial treatments. I used to be more focused on massage but, since using various product brands, I’ve fallen in love with facials and how they make the guest feel. Skincare is so important. The 55-minute facials include a beautiful scalp, neck and shoulder massage, as well as a hand and arm massage. We can adapt all our treatments for each individual. These include pregnant women, guests with allergies, and those who’re nervous about having a treatment with us.”

Self-Care Following the Pandemic

It’s important to take time out for yourself, particularly following the pandemic. Many people experienced higher levels of stress, and may still be suffering from the effects of it. Self-care can look different for each person. Some might like to unwind in a hot, candle-lit bath after a long day, whereas others might prefer to indulge in a tranquil spa weekend. We’ve had a strange couple of years, and so self-care has never been so important. During the pandemic, the spa closed which had an impact on my mental health. I started meditating as a way of coping, which I’ve now incorporated into my daily routine. I find that a few minutes a day makes a difference, giving me time to breathe and slow down.”

What Makes Billesley Manor Different?

Here at Billesley Manor, we want our visitors to be able to come in, switch off and enjoy a relaxing retreat. My previous spa was in a country hotel health club, meaning it was a very fast-paced environment. There was always a mix of spa guests, members, golfers and swimming lessons. The aim was to motivate our guests and encourage fitness and wellbeing. Billesley Manor offers a different experience. Driving up to the hotel instantly transports you away from your hectic lifestyle, and when you walk into the spa, there’s a complete sense of calm. It’s a relaxing environment for our members and guests to escape.”

A little insight: we may or may not be changing our products in the spa to a very popular luxury brand – which I’m very excited about!
